Sunglasses are not just for summer and they not just fashion accessories. During fall and winter they can help protect your eyes from cold winds and dust as well as prevent dry eye symptoms. Anyway I doubt luxury fashion brands spend much time worrying about wintry winds and dry eyes when they design sunglasses, but they sure do spend time worrying about those “cool” looks. All this winter eyewear talk brings us to Chanel’s recently unveiled Fall-Winter 2015/16 eyewear collection that sports three of their iconic design codes namely – the quilting, the chain and the tweed. They, as you would expect from the revered brand are stylish as well as comfortable to wear.
Chanel’s famous quilt design makes its way to this eyewear collection. The iconic design appears on the temples in frosted shades of glacier blue, sea green, dusky pink and marron glacé to add color to dark cold days. Made of acetate in oval, square, rectangular and cat eye shapes, these sunglasses and eyeglasses are a perfect way to accessorize your winter wardrobe. To ensure comfort to the wearer they feature rounded angles and flexible temples.
A trip down memory lane has inspired Chanel to go back to its origins and borrow the flat-link metal chain of one of their iconic handbags – the 2.55 for sunglasses. The temples of both the sunglasses and eyeglasses are adorned with the chain that is offered in silver, gold and ruthenium. Additionally a part of temple and temple tips come covered in quilted calfskin or acetate, depending on the mode. The model is offered in several profiles including XL square, flat brow, butterfly, round, rectangular and oval. The Chain is available in a range of fall colors black, taupe, raspberry, khaki, olive, and textures of tweed and fur.
It wouldn’t surprise anyone to know that Coco Chanel learned about tweeds thanks to a British gentleman, a Duke no less. Chanel and Duke of Westminster had a decade long affair that started in the 1920s. It was after borrowing some of Duke’s sportswear Chanel realized how comfortable they are. And rest of Chanel and tweed story as they say is history. For this eyewear collection Chanel uses an exclusive pattern reserved for the sunglasses. The matt acetate frames feature a tweed weave pattern in a range of colors black, blue, navy and dark violet. Also available is a tortoiseshell version in brown, yellow, olive green and grey. The collection is available in butterfly and rectangular frames.
