It all started in 1947 when Christian Dior selected the amphora-shaped bottle for his very first perfume, Miss Dior. Since then amphoras has been used to bottle some of fashion house’s most sought after and iconic fragrances such as Diorama, Diorissimo, Diorling and the J’adore. Continuing with the tradition of use of amphora-shaped bottles, Christian Dior is introducing a new way to use amphoras – customizable versions.
The history on amphoras goes back to the ancient Greeks, which was developed during the bronze-age and further developed by the Romans to store wines and other liquids. Dior has done several amphora versions over the years for their fragrances that epitomizes femininity, curvaceous, timeless, classic beauty as well as youth. The custom made Dior amphoras will feature a seal with a golden thread tied in a “perfumer’s bow” by Dior’s expert craftsmen, the Dames d’Atelier. Each bottle can be engraved with a date or initials. The bottom of the amphora comes decorated with one of Dior’s favorite lucky charms, a star motif.
As to what perfume fills the bespoke amphora – that decision is left to the customer to choose from one of Dior’s nine fragrances that include Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, J’adore Eau de Parfum and Diorissimo Eau de Toilette.
