As December approaches and Christmas takes over the world, we look forward to the best parts of the season- the lights, the tree, the presents and of course, Harrod’s window display of the season!

The upmarket British department store, Harrods, is not only home to the most luxurious brands but also a legend in the land of Christmas window displays all over the world. And this year it celebrates the joy of the season with Once Upon A Christmas themed windows, inspired from the age-old festive story itself!

As you walk by the store on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, you can step in the land of Magical Marionettes through a window and cheer them as they work hard to put together a magical display for you!

The little mouse, who was the star of The Land Of Make Believe campaign last year, is all grown up and makes an enchanting comeback as the lead character Peter Pumpernickel this year along with Poppy Peasprout, who have finally mastered the ballet routine to the delight of Father Christmas and the audience from all over the world that passes them by!

The window wonderland is complete with theatrical stages, bright lights, scenery and plush red velvet curtains which have been raised by two feet so that the band of dancing mice underneath those floorboards can prepare for the BIG day with their own mice-sized season decor!

According to Harrods’ visual merchandiser, Alexander Wells-Grecco, installing the displays for 40 themed windows is a ten-night process spreading over 110 hours. “The theme is based around puppetry and theatrics. We have re-created lots of individual theater scenes that follow a narrative. The key target for us this year was to really engage and interact with the families, and the children becoming the main focus and hero of the season which is why we raised our windows’ height.” he told WWD.

Bottega Veneta’s walk by windows featuring Burberry’s Thomas bears or Balenciaga’s trapeze artist complete with the label’s Christmas accessories. Take a few turns and then walk by Stella Mccartney’s window where a  production line of mice prepare a range of Christmas orders while the Magical Marionette circus tent features  AW15 handbag collection. Dont miss out on the magnificent gingerbread house by Rosalind Miller that took 33 hours to bake and 20 hours of hand piping for all those elegant details!

Have A Merry Harrod’s Christmas!
