There is cause for Hermès Birkin handbag fans to celebrate. As announced by the luxury brand, there is a new avatar of the much-celebrated bag with a twist in design. The Hermès Sellier Birkin 40 has shed all the bells and whistles that usually adorn the collection. There are no fancy gold-plated lock and key, even got rid of interior lining. Then they hid the stitches and smoothed the edges. Going minimalist doesn’t transfer to pricing, the classic de-cluttered bag still commands a lavish $14,900 price tag.
Hermès leather artistic design director Couli Jobert wanted the Birkin to go lean and move away from its all too obvious natural brown. To achieve that he pared-down in design and decorations, and limited it to just one color – in matte black with silver palladium hardware. The cowhide leather made Hermès Sellier Birkin 40 is wider than a normal Birkin.
Hermès did not release more than one image of the newest member of Birkin family, that however is more than enough to get motivated fashionistas join the wait list for the upcoming release.
