As a Formula One fan, I would love to think Nicolas Ghesquiere found his inspiration for Louis Vuitton Race Bags collection from there. But no, he jumped across the pond and borrowed lots of design elements from NASCAR team jackets. The bright, bold and dark color combinations on bags are far off brand’s famously subdued design DNA. The race bags are part of Cruise 2017 collection, Nicolas and his team probably was thinking about tropical Caribbean Islands when they worked on these.
Almost most of Louis Vuitton’s famous bags received the colorful treatment including the Petite Malle. Their signature Damier canvas plays a big part in this collection and it shows up on almost all the race bags. It fits perfectly with the race theme, as it is a good substitute for the famous checkered flag in racing. A special collection like this also deserves Louis Vuitton’s iconic monogram trim. Each and every bag in the collection comes with LV monogram trim in one form or another.
The collection is a riot with all these bright and bold colors. Personally, this really is not my style, little too busy with patterns. But, I am sure NASCAR fans would love to have Louis Vuittons in their favorite team and driver colors.
