Kim Jones yesterday unveiled his Louis Vuitton SS18 Men’s Collection in Paris at the Palais-Royal. The grand affair is the result of Jones going island-hopping in the Pacific to find his design inspirations – if not island-hopping, he is trekking the Himalayas looking for ideas. He found out flowery Hawaiian shirts, scuba shorts, surf pants and relaxed tailoring of Hong Kong are a good fit for a summer collection.
For Kim Jones, the idea to head east to Pacific islands came from a book named “The Atlas of Remote Islands: Fifty Islands I Have Not Visited and Never Will”. He said “It’s that multicultural, sort of subtropical vibe. I wanted something quite sporty, but I wanted the tailoring to be relaxed and the sportswear to be quite fitted and smart.”
The collection feature shirts as well as bags in two shades. Among the accessories are metallic duffels, clip belts, metallic sunglasses, key chains, pouches, wallets, wrist watches and beach slippers. There is also something inspired by Denmark, a place nowhere near the tropics – a pair of clogs with ash wood soles – to pay homage to his Danish heritage.
Tropics or Denmark, in any season there is always a reason to carry a flask around. Even better if this flask comes with few glasses in a special case with Louis Vuitton Monogram print. Take a look at the galleries and bid your time for few months, until they hit the stores. In the meanwhile watch the Men’s SS2018 show online at Louis Vuitton and discover the looks.
