The love story between Hello Kitty and Japan as old as the 1942: A Love Story, not really but no need to fact check that. Anything with Hello Kitty named slapped is going to do well in kitten’s home country. That’s why Italian winemaker Torti Winery teamed up with Sanrio, owner of the beloved kitty to release Hello Kitty wine collection. Not a lot of alcohol brands would get into a deal with something well known as a children’s brand, but this is Japan we are talking about, the land of the kawaii things.
I don’t have to mention that Pink is Hello Kitty’s favorite color, but I am going to mention it anyway. This makes a sparkling rosé the perfect wine in the collection to receive the coveted gold heart decoration. Other varieties include two sparkling whites and a red. For Torti this has been a long process, they apparently set aside some grapes for Hello Kitty since 2007. Patrizia Torti, a member of the family said “My father and my sister take care of the production, from the soil to picking the grapes. We produce a special bottle with a heart, only for Hello Kitty.” Worth noting three different sparkling rosés are part of the collection.
Sanrio wants to make sure kids don’t line up to buy their latest licensed product. They put up a statement to make sure everyone understands it. “As you probably know, Sanrio licenses a wide array of lifestyle products for the Hello Kitty brand. The Hello Kitty wine collection is a licensed product from Europe and part of a distribution agreement in the US. While the Hello Kitty brand appeals to a broad age demographic, many of our lifestyle products are developed and marketed specifically for the older consumer. The Hello Kitty wine is targeted solely toward the adult consumer over 21 years of age and will be available at select specialty retailers only.”
In the US they have lined up Antonello Ristorante in Santa Ana in California to be their representative. They sell three from the collection – sparkling brut, sparkling rose, and Sweet Pink. To buy online contact the restaurant, they have an online retailer handling it, they are out of stock at the moment.
