Business is tough. Staying in business for 90 years is tougher. Danish electronic design company Bang & Olufsen has been doing business for 90 long years and there is no question they have earned the right to celebrate it any way they want. One way they chose to celebrate is by designing a new speaker, appropriately named BeoLab 90 it comes equipped with a host of new technologies. For those of us who doesn’t know much about technicalities of speakers we have to take B&O’s word, and they say this is one of the “most complete and powerful digital loudspeakers ever designed for use in the home.”
One of the highlights of BeoLab 90 is Active Room Compensation – one of B&O’s new technologies. This technology help to reduce the impact sounds get from hitting walls, furniture and other things in a room. The placement of speaker in a room alters the sound, new technology help eliminate that problem by “measuring the acoustical effects of its surroundings and directs superb sound to your favorite listening position.” Sound can be heard exactly the way they are intended to including where individual band members are when listening to audio or the actors in a movie.
Another highlighted feature is the control of the width and direction of the sound named Beam Width Control. What this basically does is giving you the control to easily change listening experience from a preferred small area like your living room when you watch TV to a larger area like the entire ground floor when you are having a party. It also offer a wide sound setting, which perfect when a group gather to watch a movie.
The design itself is unique and you will be hard pressed to find this same design anywhere else in the world. Its 3600 frame is made from 65kg of aluminium and the sturdy structure comes covered in black fabric. The frame is then mounted on a curved wooden base, completing its unique look. The wood stand also acts as its main design element as it helps the speaker blend perfectly with room interiors. It comes with its own app for controls.
“BeoLab 90 is our most complete loudspeaker to date. It is a committed investment in excellent craftsmanship, ideal materials and superior technology. Future Bang & Olufsen products will benefit from the innovation and know-how gained from the development of BeoLab 90 – and our customers will savour in perfect sound from the ultimate loudspeaker for their home,” says Bang & Olufsen CEO, Tue Mantoni.
