Ever considered buying a speaker system not made of brushed aluminium or fancy carbon fiber? Or thoughts given to speakers made from natural materials like wood? Thanks to the collaboration between Grovemade and renowned industrial designer Joey Roth, a new speaker system is now in the market – Grovemade Walnut Speaker System. Highlight of the collection is their wooden speaker shells that are made from either walnut or maple hardwoods. There is good news for eco-conscious music lovers, wood is sourced domestically from fallen trees and such.
Speaker shells machined using Autodesk’s Fusion 360 CAD/CAM software feature a horn-design that helps deliver low frequencies. The 2” full range drivers are used to deliver crystal clear mid and high frequencies with the help of 2x25W amplifiers. This was achieved by removing digital signal processing by a back-loaded horn design to reinforce bass response.
Mostly handcrafted, the aesthetic speakers are made in Grovmade’s workshop in Portland. Production process include bonding all parts with durable epoxy adhesive. Shaped by sanding, they are also oiled with two coats of natural oil and buffed by hand to seal the wood. Completing the make is a premium vegetable-tanned leather covered stainless steel stand.
The Grovemade Walnut Speaker System is a great companion to their existing Desk Collection. Portable in size they are compatible with computers as well as other audio devices. Introductory pricing starts with $599 for walnut and $499 for maple. To order or to view entire collection visit Grovemade website.
