The limited edition Ducati 1199 Superleggera, the newest addition to Ducati fleet is as light as a feather in the motorcycle universe. It weighs just 342 pounds, the lightest bike ever made by Ducati. Ducati achieved Superleggera’s light weight by using space-age material such as magnesium, carbon fiber, and titanium. Ducati claims the bike has “the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle.” Don’t let the weight fool you because it comes packed with power – over 200hp if you can handle it.
The Superleggera is powered by Ducati’s Superquadro liquid cooled, L-Twin with a 4-cylinder engine. With 200hp, and 1198cc engine it delivers lot of torque – 134Nm (99 ft-lbs) at 10,200rpm. Ducati also claimed this bike to be their most powerful model yet, as specs suggest it’s not an idle boast. Bike’s weight reduction is helped by a magnesium monocoque frame, forged magnesium wheels, carbon fiber bodywork and rear sub-frame, and a full titanium exhaust system. To bring the weight down even further, Ducati added a lighter lithium-ion battery, as well as titanium bolts and fasteners.
Other specifications include ABS brakes on front and rear, 6-speed transmission and fully adjustable Öhlins front and rear suspensions. Each of the bikes gets a “Racing Kit,” when mounted it adds an additional 5hp to the bike and shed 6.25 pounds. With the “racing kit,” bike is completely adapt to closed-circuit use.
The bike is based on the 1199 Panigale R. Limited edition Ducati 1199 Superleggera will have only 500 bikes made. To own one will cost you $65,000.
