Automobili Lamborghini has something special for all the speed fanatics and fanatic collectors out there, who are blessed by the good man upstairs enough to actually afford one. Lamborghini today announced the plans to release a permanently open edition of the (street-legal) racing prototype, a very limited edition of the Veneno Roadster, 9 cars in all during the course of next year.
For the price of $4.5 million (approx. €3.3 million – excluding taxes) you get what you ask for, a Venono Roadster with no roof and just a strong rollover bar to hang onto your dear life when driving at 221mph on open road.
Performance and engine on the Veneno Roadster screams of everything fast and extreme. In-house produced engine features a mid-mounted 6.5ltr V12 that spits out 750hp, giving the Veneno Roadster power to go from 0 to 62mph (100kmh) in just 2.9 seconds and reach the top speed of 221mph. It has an extremely fast, dual-shifting ISR gearbox with five driving modes, coupled with a permanent all-wheel drive, a racing chassis with pushrod suspension and horizontal spring/damper units.
Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) made monocoque body weighs just 3,278lbs (1,490kg.) Thus giving the Veneno Roadster a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.38lbs/hp (1.99kg/hp,) resulting in its incredible performance. All interiors from central tunnels, sills, bucket seats, cockpit and even the brake-discs are dominated by CFRP. Extremely light-weight and capable of transforming to any shape, the hi-tech CFRP help reduce weight of the vehicle by considerable margins.
The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster’s exceptional aerodynamic efficiency is equal of a racing prototype. Every design detail has its own clear function, such as the arrow shaped front-end designed as a large aerodynamic wing, deliver perfect airflow and downforce, visual division of rear fenders maximizes the aerodynamic flow and large openings perform as ventilators to the engine bay. Even the alloy wheels are designed with aerodynamics on mind, the carbon fiber ring around the wheel rim doubles as a turbine to deliver cooling air to the carbon-ceramic brake discs.
Automobili Lamborghini do not wish to keep their well-heeled customers restricted to standard color “Rosso Venono,” design or specifications. They are open to customizations and each customer will be able to “individualize his own vehicle to suit his personal preferences.” If I were Automobili Lamborghini, I might change this a bit to “individualize his/her own vehicle to suit his/her personal preferences.”
