Dolce & Gabbana knows how to do color – lots of it. Fellow Italian brand, Smeg knows how to make state-of-the-art home appliances. And for the second year in a row, both brands worked together to bring something extra special to the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Last year at the fair they showcased limited edition refrigerators with multi-colored artwork that celebrated Sicilian traditions. This year, Dolce & Gabbana and Smeg decided to introduce small domestic kitchen appliances hand-painted with an equally vibrant color palette in a collection named “Sicily Is My Love”. The new range includes toasters, juicers, coffee machines, kettles, and blenders.
Appliances in the collection are decorated with gold lemons, citrus fruits, prickly pears and bright red cherries. Some of them feature traditional Sicilian decorations like crocchi, known to be framed in triangular motifs. Others include the Southern Italy and its famous coasts and landscapes; Mount Etna surrounded by frescoes; ruins of the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux in the Valley of Temples; trinacrie and cartocci and decorative motifs similar to stylized acanthus leaves.
As you already know, both Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are Sicilian natives. The duo constantly incorporates Sicily’s arts and culture to their fashion work. This time around along with Smeg they are bringing attention to island’s food, produce and traditional dishes, in the most eye-catching way. There is no word on availability of these special edition kitchen appliances yet. The roll out is scheduled for October, make sure to bookmark Dolce & Gabbana and Smeg appliance pages to check back later.
