Goldfinch And Based Upon Makes A $700,000 Baby Grand Piano Named “The Baby”

Goldfinch Based Upon Baby Piano

This is just the perfect piano to play Nina Simone’s “My Baby Just Cares For Me”. A piano named “The Baby” has every right to play such a beautiful song. Another luxury creation from Goldfinch, the same piano customizer who introduced us to the $600,000 Swarovski covered piano that now adorns a Qatari Sheik’s palace. This particular grand baby piano also comes at a hefty price at £475,000 (approx. $700,000).

For “The Baby”, Goldfinch teamed-up with well-known London artist studio Based Upon. Their design and work included making a sculpture that is going to wrap around the piano Goldfinch made. Developing this handcrafted sculpture concept, named the “Twist”, took Based Upon almost nine years. Its curvy and lined design is inspired and based on mysterious patterns in the nature. This is the first time they are using the Twist on a piano, prior to this they have used it on things like tablets and consoles.

As for the piano, it is hidden under a flat oval top. By twisting it open, the baby grand piano along with its 230 strings reveal itself. The keyboard is housed in a separate compartment. Made from exclusive hand finished metals, the Twist’s gold exteriors gets its smooth contrasting finish via resin’s reflective interior structure.
