Seeing a MLB pop-up store in London is as surprising as seeing a cricket pop-up shop in New York. Nevertheless, if you are going to shore up baseball interest in England and elsewhere in the world, this is the best time do it with the MLB Postseason is in full swing. The store opened in Covent Garden carries a full range of authentic MLB merchandise including jerseys of all 30 teams. Besides that, they also offer a personalization service and fans can add names and numbers of their choice – players or themselves.
This is the first time MLB is offering such a wide range of items in Europe. Fans can also purchase on-field caps, jerseys, t-shirts, baseball equipment and other merchandise all under one roof. Merchandise comes from well-known sporting goods companies and includes New Era caps, Majestic Athletic game jerseys and fan gear, Wilson Sporting Goods baseball gloves, Louisville Slugger bats, Rawlings baseballs, Stance socks, and Herschel bags.
There is also new baseball technologies to try. MLB has brought with them a virtual reality headset with MLBAM technology. The main feature of the headset is it allows fans to experience live action like they are right on the field. MLB got to live and test demo it during this year’s All-Star game held at Petco Park in San Diego, home of the Padres.
It is not just buying merchandise, fans also get to enter into competitions. The biggest prize MLB offer is tickets to Games 3 and 4 of the 2016 World Series, an all-inclusive trip that include flights and hotels. Interiors of the store feature exposed brick walls and dark wooden fixtures – a tribute to MLB ballparks.
The MLB pop-up store will stay open for the rest of 2016. Located at 78B Long Acre, Covent Garden, it is open to the public Monday-Sunday from 10am to 7pm.
