British born Hollywood legend Bob Hope’s Toluca Lake estate is on the market for $27.5 million. Built in 1939, the estate sits on a property of over 5 acres of land. Originally designed by architect Robert Finkelhor and remodeled in the 1950’s by architect John Elgin to give it a more contemporary style.
Property features a guest house, staff quarters and offices, indoor pool and spa, outdoor pool, patios, landscaped lawns and expansive gardens. Also a 1-hole golf course with a sand trap, Hope was an avid golfer. All this in addition to the main house. Main house consists of 8 bedrooms and 7 baths, also a four car garage. Estate is walled, gated and offer complete privacy.
Estate also includes a garden shed equipped with a television and bathroom.
This incredibly vast and beautiful property has its own history and stories to tell. One such story, as told by Hope’s daughter Linda is, that the presidential helicopter Marine One carrying President Nixon once landed in the yard, so he could play a round of golf at nearby Lakeside Country Club with Hope.
Jade Mills of Coldwell Bankers, Beverly Hills is handling the sale with Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland. According to Mills, there is one stipulation for the buyer: whoever buys the house has to live in it for five years.
Bob Hope died in 2003, and his wife, Dolores, passed away in 2011. This is the first time the estate has ever been put on the market.
