For the year 2015 Chopard has introduced three new models for its flagship Mille Miglia timepiece collection. Chopard Mille Miglia watches introduced in 1988 pays tribute to the open road endurance race of the same name that took place in Italy between 1927 and 1957, with a break for the World War II. Taking its history into account, Chopard has designed and named the latest collection Mille Miglia GTS (Grand Turismo Sport). Of the three piece collection we are taking a closer look at the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control model. In case you are interested in other two models, they are named GTS Automatic and GTS Chrono.
With a design inspired by classic cars that participated in the race between 1940 and 1957, the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control comes housed in a 43 mm case. The bezel of the sporty watch feature a graduated black aluminium insert. The lugs are short, pointed and tapered to ensure maximum comfort to the wearer. The timepiece is available in three variants – stainless steel case with a steel bracelet, stainless steel case with a rubber strap and a luxury 18 karat rose gold case with a rubber strap. The unique tire design of the rubber strap is inspired by Dunlop tires of vintage 1960s cars. The back of the case is engraved with the inscription “Brescia > Roma > Brescia”.
Powered by Chopard’s latest in-house made COSC-certified mechanical self-winding 01.08-C movement, it boasts a 4 Hz frequency, water resistance to 100 m and power reserve of about 60 hours.
The matt velvet-finish black dial feature red and white accents, a design inspired by the visuals of old-fashioned car dashboards. The power reserve indicator in black, red and white at 9 o’clock resembles fuel gauge indicators of the 1950s, while the date aperture at 3 o’clock with a red-arrow race logo compliments the numbers on the doors and hoods of the competing cars. The minute track and seconds hand, painted in red also take after its racing heritage. The facetted hour and minute hands, depending on the version available in Superluminova-painted rhodium or gold. The dial features Superluminova-painted large 6 and 12 o’clock numerals, another feature borrowed from dashboards of classic cars.
