A Trio Of Jaquet Droz Paillonné Enamel Watches

Jaquet Droz Paillonné Enamel 1

Jaquet Droz has a set of three beautiful new watches in limited edition. All three models with similar dials are made using paillonné enameling. Each paillonné enamel dial is limited to just 8 pieces in models 39 mm Petite Heure Minute, 43 mm Grande Seconde, and a 50 mm pocket watch.

Since 18th century paillonné enameling has been part of watchmaker’s arsenal, the complicated process works by inserting a piece of foil (paillonné) on the enameled dial. On these watches, gold paillonné is baked into bright blue Grand Feu enameled dial. Entire process starts with a solid gray gold dial with a guilloche pattern. To achieve the blue enameling, the dial is forged in the furnace several times in temperatures that at times reach 1000 °C. Once the blue enamel dial is ready, gold paillonnés are placed by hand with surgical precision to form floral motifs.

Dial details also include blued steel hands and sub-dials in silver opaline with black hour and minute markers in Roman numerals and Arabic numerals. Housed in 18 karat gold cases, they are fitted with a blue or black alligator leather strap.

The watches are powered by three different high-caliber movements. The Petite Heure Minute contains a JD 2653 automatic movement with 68 hours of power reserve, the Grande Seconde has a JD 2663 automatic movement also with 68 hours of power reserve, and the Pocket Watch has a JD 1615 hand-wound movement with 40 hours of power reserve.
