Panerai’s watch to celebrate Year of the Horse is a work of art. The horse on this watch appears on the hinged cover of the watch that protects the dial, watch itself resembles a pocket watch. The engraving of the horse consists of a complicated three step process. First grooves are made in steel using a specialized tool called a “sparsello”. They are then gets inlaid with threads of gold. Finally, gold threads gets inserted in repeated parallel layers and hammered until they completely fill the engraved outlines. This work is done only by experienced craftsmen because of the special inlaying skills required for the job.
