For a 12 year luxury watchmaking company, De Bethune has come a long way. And, they have successfully mastered the art of combining old watchmaking traditions with new technologies and space-age designs. Their latest offering unveiled at Baselworld, DB29 Mexichrono Tourbillon follows these same principals.

Highlight of the DB29 Mexichrono is De Bethune’s newly patented clutch chronograph system. By using a double case, De Benthune has successfully hidden the escapement, as a result chronograph system has no sub-dials, and everything is laid out on one dial. There are five hands attached to the center to help read the chronograph indications. All hands are made of hand-polished steel, and blued hour and minute hands have circular openings at their tips. Chronograph hours and seconds hands are in blue, while the minutes hand is in rose gold. Chronograph function tracks 24 hours.

Patented new chronograph system has three separate clutch mechanism that allows for semi-independent systems controlled by three-column wheels. This means there is less friction among moving parts in the chronograph system. A crown based mono-pusher at 3 o’clock controls the chronograph.

Housed in a 5N rose gold 46 mm case with cone-shaped lugs is a caliber DB2039 automatic movement. It has a power reserve of 5 days and 36,000 vph of frequency. A push button located at 4 o’clock opens the double case back, which allows for viewing of the movement’s amazing workings.

The DB29 has a silver-toned dial made on different levels with some curved for better visibility. There are different rings to indicate time, starting from the center are hours counter and hours inner ring, minutes ring and minutes counter  and an outer ring with chronograph seconds.

The DB29 Mexichrono Tourbillon comes with an extra-supple alligator leather strap with pin buckle. Limited to just 20 pieces it is priced at $270,000.
