Blancpain’s contribution to this year’s Only Watch is a quite exquisite and intricate piece inspired by the traditional Chinese Calendar. Part of watchmaker’s Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar collection, the exclusive timepiece pays tribute to Chinese traditions and a culture that is deeply rooted in zodiac signs. Wrapped in a 45 mm 18 karat red gold case and powered by an in-house made complication, this unique watch will be part of the November auction to raise funds for the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy (AMM).
The fascinating dial feature hours, minutes and Georgian calendar on the outer most ring. There are three sub dials dedicated to Chinese calendar that include traditional double-hour indication, day, month with indication of leap months, signs of the zodiac, as well as the five elements and the 10 celestial stems. The combination of the latter with the 12 animals of the zodiac that represent the terrestrial branches follows the sixty-year cycle that is central to Chinese culture. The moon phase is located at 6 o’clock. Its hour markers as well as hour and minute hands are made from applied gold.
The movement with 36 jewels and 469 components offer 168-hours of power reserve. The back covered in sapphire crystal offer a view of the specialty crafted oscillating weight with black champlevé enamel finish and bearing the ONLY WATCH inscription. Giving the Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar a final touch of elegance, the watch comes with a beautiful brown Alligator leather strap.
