Independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen, who had made a name for himself by making exquisite dials and finishing work has unveiled his contribution for Only Watch 2015 – an updated version of his GMT-6 in a 39 mm stainless steel case with an 18 karat white gold crown and a unique dial. Making this special watch with a beautiful dial might have received a bit of help from Voutilainen’s new purchase, the Comblémine dial-making factory acquired to improve his company’s dial-making know-how.
First things first – this year’s Only Watch will be held in Geneva in November. The sixth edition of the auction that raise funds for the benefit of research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy also roped-in watch expert Aurel Bacs and multi-national Phillips as partners to make it a success.
The white gold hand-guilloché dial of the special edition Voutilainen GMT-6 comes with lot of hand-finished decorations. The center of the dial is blue enameled. The GMT mechanism that keeps track of two time zones is at six o’clock along with the day/night indicator with enameled appliques in blue and gold. The dial feature white gold applied Roman numerals and polished steel hands.
The in-house made movement boasts a direct impulse escapement with two escape wheels. Bottom plates and bridges of the movement are made from nickel silver. Its Breguet and Grossman inspired proprietary sprung-balance wheel beats at 18,000 vph, held in place by a thin, black-polished bridge. Workings of the movement is visible from the back of the sapphire crystal covered case. The Voutilainen GMT-6 for Only Watch is fitted with a black hand-stitched leather strap with 18 karat white gold buckle.
