In less than two weeks’ time on January 4th Downton Abbey returns to PBS with its fifth season. While regular Abbey fans patiently waiting for the show to start, one of show’s celebrity fans decided to build a Downton Abbey gingerbread house for the holidays. Martha Stewart, the doyenne of domesticity has created a Gingerbread Abbey inspired by the Highclere Castle, the real life Downton Abbey.
With every miniscule detail of the Grantham family home taken into account, it took two bakers of Stewart’s team 34 hours to create the estate. Ingredient list include 66 cups of flour, 22 eggs, and 11 cups of molasses. There are 65 caramel windows, minute architectural details and a friendly dog (Isis) that stand guard of the cookie dough abbey.
On hand to unveil the edible Gingerbread Abbey was British actress Lesley Nicol who plays Ms. Patmore, the doyenne of the Downton Abbey kitchen. There are more Downton Abbey related news other than the gingerbread house. George Clooney and Jeremy Piven made special cameos on a Downton Abbey cheeky holiday sketch created for TV fundraiser Text Santa.
