There is a new afternoon tea menu at The Berkley’s Prêt-à-Portea restaurant for Spring/Summer 2014. Contributors to this year’s fashionable edible list of handbags and high-heels consists of who’s who in the fashion world. This is the eighth year London’s Knightsbridge-based hotel serving designer-inspired afternoon tea. All their creations come from each season’s collections at London Fashion Week, which means there’s a set of lucky pastry chefs Prêt-à-Portea attending fashion shows.
This year while wearing a pair of red-soled Christian Louboutin’s you can take a bite from shoemaker’s chocolate biscuit Pigalle Spike heel with fresh turquoise hue icing. Or you can go for Miu Miu’s exotic-skin tote bag with chocolate pecan moelleux. From the House of Victoria Beckham you can taste her graphic geometric cherry and white chocolate mousse shirt. Oscar de La Renta makes his contribution with a flirtatious summer pistachio sponge cake dress topped with poppy seed parfait and edible flower.
Other cakes and pastries are shaped from designs by Emma Wickstead (a Kate Middleton favorite), Dsquared, Karla Colletto, Alberta Ferreti and Simone Rocha.
Yummy cakes and pastries are served with tea and if you prefer champagne. A wide range of teas available to choose from four different varieties – loose leaf, herbal infusions, well-being and exclusive signature. Fashionable afternoon tea costs per person £41 ($70). With a glass of Laurent-Perrier champagne it’s £51 per person ($85) and with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Rosé, Bollinger Rosé or Ruinart blanc de blancs £57 per person or $95. A 12.5% service charge will be added later, this is not a worry for well-heeled fashionistas roaming the street of London.
