We think perhaps this is an over-the-top thing even for whiskey lovers. Regardless of what we think, Scottish whiskey maker Johnnie Walker has teamed up with two fellow Scottish establishments, textile manufacturer Harris Tweed and Heriot-Watt University to produce a smart fabric that will smell like a swig of your favorite whiskey. The “smart tweed” injected with the whisky-themed fragrance named Aqua Alba, imitates the scent of Johnnie Walker’s Black Label. The tweed carries scents of “rich malt, golden vanilla, red fruit and dark chocolate tones.”
Harris Tweed’s manager in charge of finishing Donald Mackay noted, this is the first fabric he ever worked with that can withstand more than one dry cleaning cycle. He also added, “The process we have devised for Johnnie Walker means that this scent is layered into the fabric throughout the finishing process and is permanently imbued in the tweed.”
The tweed design reflects colors of the whiskey ingredients. Milan-based designer Angelos Braits is the first to release products made with the whiskey scented smart fabric. His range will be unveiled in Berlin, and go on sale in Germany, Greece, and Belgium.
