If a commercial establishment manages to stay in business for 250 years, they have without a doubt earned the right to celebrate it whichever way they fancy it. Cognac maker Hennessy definitely earned that right and this month released the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend to celebrate their 250th anniversary. A limited edition, each eau-de-vie included in the spirit was created, blended, and aged by the master blender Yann Fillioux. The blend is aged for 15-35 years in total. The Fillioux family has been collaborating with Hennessy family for seven generations in cognac making.
For this special edition, Fillioux has spent four years working with the seven member Hennessy tasting committee to release the perfect cognac blend. The cognac is matured in wide-grained Limousin oak cask, from which it gained a hint of vanilla and oak. For each of 250 Collector Blend editions, Hennessy used 250 barrels made by their barrel-makers at La Tonnellerie de la Sarrazine. For the anniversary edition, 250 liter bespoke barrels were created with extra wood added to effect the final cognac. The blend comprises of aromas of bitter orange and freshly grated nutmeg, licorice, dried peppermint leaves, and saffron.
Elegant crystal decanter the cognac presented is created by glassware designer Stéphanie Balini, who previously designed the Hennessy Paradis Imperial bottle. The design is based on the iconic Hennessy bottle known the world over. Each bottle comes individually numbered and encased in a deluxe gift box. In addition to the special edition, Hennessy also plans to celebrate anniversary with a series of events throughout the year, one such event is the “Time Barrel” world tour with a weeklong stop at St. Pancreas station in London in June. The Hennessy 250 Collector Blend now available with a $535 price tag for a 1 liter bottle.
