Hello Kitty’s big 4-0 is cause for huge celebrations in Japan. Celebrations include a high-end jewelry collection from Mikimoto and a Playboy-Leica collaboration camera. There are other celebrations not so high-end per se, but pricey anyway. Some of Japan’s tastiest melons this season come with Hello Kitty’s cute face etched into the rind. Produce company Furano Melon in Hokkaido named them the “Furano Hello Kitty Melon (40th Anniversary Edition)” and priced them each 5,000 yen ($50!).
Each melon weighs around 4 pounds and come in a special 40th Anniversary box featuring birthday girl Hello Kitty on the front. These melons won’t be available for everybody or every day, this is a special limited edition with just 400 on offer. If you want one, Furano accept orders until July 30th while supplies lasts. Couple of more things, they don’t deliver these cuties outside of Japan and they won’t ship until the end of July, as it happens Hello Kitty melons are still growing.
