We can now add scent-inspired afternoon tea to fashion-inspired afternoon tea. Over the years luxury fashion brands and hotels worked together to offer unforgettable experiences in afternoon tea with their eye catching, mouthwatering cake and pastry designs. It also provided brands the opportunity to promote their latest collections. Having seen the success fashion houses such as Anya Hindmarch and Jimmy Choo enjoyed through these collaborations, British perfumer Floris London decided to team up with InterContinental London Park Lane to offer a limited edition fragrance-inspired Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea.
Floris London is a family owned perfumery now run by Edward Bodenham, a ninth generation member of the Floris clan. Bodenham worked with Executive Chef Ashley Wells of the InterContinental Park Lane to design Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea. They used notes from Floris fragrances to add flavor to everything from teas to sandwiches to cakes. As a fan Floris perfumes you are going to experience freshly cut grass, jasmine, bergamot, citrus and rose scents in a different form – as flavors.
The sandwiches of this special treat come with light rose pickled cucumber with mascarpone, which you can taste before the heartier notes of salmon and bergamot in lemon bread. Then there is the spicy pink peppercorn and thyme chicken, followed by a rich honey roast pumpkin with crumbled feta served on spinach bread. Savory treats are completed by sultana and whole meal mini-buttermilk scones that are served with Earl Grey infused butter, wild strawberry jam, pink peppercorn lemon curd and clotted cream.
Pastry Chef Luis Meza used the English Garden-inspired summer notes from classic Floris’ fragrances to design a collection of cakes. They includes a bite-sized Jasmine tea cakes decked with edible flowers, macarons flavored with bergamot and blackcurrant flower, Peach Melba mousse, and a grapefruit and almond tart with violet cream. Between savories and cakes you can munch on fresh summer berries and chocolate garden stones to refresh taste buds.
The limited edition Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea is available now through 27th September from Monday to Sunday 1pm to 5pm, priced £45 ($70) per person. Tea is served at the Wellington Lounge overlooking the Royal Parks and London landmarks. Bookings are a must and can made on 020 7409 3131 or online at wellingonlounge.co.uk.
