They come from the land down under, Flat White espresso that is. A staple beverage for Aussies since the days of Men at Work in the 1980’s, it also became a favorite of Brits around the same time. Starbucks introduced their version of Flat White to Australia in 2009 and to UK a year later. Now the US and Canadian coffee aficionados get to enjoy the handcrafted espresso too.
Main ingredient of the Flat White is two shots of sweet coffee ristretto. A thin layer of steamed whole milk in a micro-foam is then slowly poured to allow the espresso to rise to the top, this bring out its bold and sweet coffee flavor. As usual java artwork is included – this time, a latte dot. The main difference between Flat Whites and lattes is in the coffee-to-milk ratio, it is higher in flat whites.
“Every Starbucks espresso beverage starts with sourcing the finest coffees from around the world, and by extending our offerings to include Flat White we are showcasing these quality ingredients in a full-flavored coffee beverage,” said Craig Russell, executive vice president, Global Coffee. Added Christine Barone, vice president, Espresso and Brewed Coffee “The growing sophistication of coffee drinkers around the world and in the United States makes the Flat White a perfect beverage for coffee lovers.”
Starbucks also notes that Flat White will be a part of its core menu line-up of espresso beverages like Caffé Americano, Caffé Latte, Cappuccino, Doppio Espresso and Espresso Macchiato.
