I was and still am a bit surprised about lack of information on Christmas Afternoon Tea this holiday season. Finally I have found one. The culinary team of Wellington Lounge at the Hotel Intercontinental, London has created the limited edition afternoon tea named The Twelve Days of Christmas, a scrumptious take on the classic festive song.
The menu include 2 sandwiches – Squab and wood pigeon in white traditional closed and French hens egg mayonnaise and cucumber in whole meal bread. Savory treats include Speyside salmon with ‘Lord of the Hundreds’ cheese on granary bread as well as warm Mountbatten Estate partridge and morel mushroom pie.
Afternoon Tea do not happen without scones, Wellington has taken care of it and offer homemade Sultana and buttermilk scones with Devonshire clotted cream and Paul Bates’ famous Kentish strawberry jam. For those with a sweet tooth there are few items on offer – a dark chocolate torte drum (complete with mini drumsticks), strawberry filled swan-shaped choux buns with air dried raspberry, and a beautiful treacle tart decorated with gold leaf and five gold rings.
You can wash everything down with a festive Champagne cocktail. The Twelve Days of Christmas costs £42 per person with minimum of two persons.
