The Langham Chicago’s Pavilion Lounge & Tea Room has something very special. Yesterday they unveiled a brand new dessert menu that include some deviously delicious ice cream dishes. Nonetheless, taking the crown in the new menu of six luxurious sundaes is one named The Victoria. Yes, it is named after the queen of England who reigned in England at the time the flagship Langham opened in 1865 in Chicago. To enjoy this extravagant sundae you will have to pony up a cool $1,000. And that price tag is on par with the Golden Opulence Sundae from New York’s Serendipity restaurant, which once held the world’s most expensive dessert title.
So, what do you get for $1,000? The sundae has a base made from premium vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The vanilla ice cream consists of three varieties of vanilla – fruity Tahitian vanilla, traditional Madagascar-Bourbon vanilla and peppery Mexican vanilla. And chocolate ice cream don’t come from your simple supermarket tub – it is made from finest Guittard Complexite 70 percent chocolate. The second layer consists of the caramelized golden peanuts, 24-karat gold dust, dark chocolate croquant, Hennessy VSOP cognac, hot fudge, salted caramel, butterscotch and whipped cream.
All of the above listed tasty and decadent items arrives beautifully arranged in a Wedgwood crystal bowl, which the lucky customers get to keep for spending $1,000. That’s not all, they also get a bottle of 2003 Dom Pérignon, which retails for $150. The crown, the crown – when you are named after Queen Victoria, you have to dress the part. The Victoria is topped off with a hand-crafted 24 karat gold leaf and edible chocolate crown.
According to Scott Green, executive pastry chef at the Langham Chicago’s Pavilion lounge and tea room, two people that might drop by to order the Victoria are Lady Gaga and Star Wars creator George Lucas. Both are seen spending time in the Windy City recently. “You never know who will come through the door. Maybe a high-powered CEO who has some colleagues in town and wants to impress them, or someone who wants to make an extra special engagement night. This is for the guest who wants to go all out,” added Green.
The Victoria along with rest of the new sundae menu is available through October 31.
