Bourbon maker Woodford Reserve is the official creator of the $1,000 Mint Julep Cup for the Kentucky Derby. In their tenth year creating the signature Mint Julep Cup, Woodford has unveiled a special edition to celebrate the Kentucky Derby in style. This year’s edition was designed in collaboration with fashion designer Billy Reid and mixologist Pamela Wiznitzer, which Woodford described as a “Mint Julep that’s distinctly modern.”
This year’s Minute Julep Cup pays tribute to Kentucky Derbies past while looking forward to its future. Handcrafted by Louisville-based jeweler From the Vault, the cup was designed by Billy Reid. Pamela Wiznitzer recipe in addition to Woodford’s Double Oaked include Coconut Palm Sugar Syrup, Powdered Sugar, Candied Orange and Lemon Slices for garnish and of course few sprigs of Chocolate Mint.
Woodford Reserve, each year donates all net proceeds from the $1,000 Mint Julep Cup sales to horse and humanitarian related causes. Over the years they have distributed more than $410,000 for charities. Proceeds from this year’s edition will benefit the Wounded Warrior Equestrian Program.
